Walmley chase down total

After electing to bat, Aston Manor Over 40s started strongly with 24 off the first two overs, and the excellent Walmley track showing no signs of its hostility which caused the previous weeks Warwickshire 2nd XI v Surrey 2nd XI match to be abandoned after an opening Chris Tremlett spell.

The Manors first wicket fell when Austen Imber was caught for 44. Simon Bowens 20 and Chris Woodings 17 retired led to Ian Bosworths 27 not out, including a six onto the pavilion roof. Rob Bartlett, David Woakes and Wayne Turner chipped in, as Walmleys strong bowling attack held the total back to 134-5.

The Birmingham Premier League hosts reply started slowly, with David Woakes bowling two overs for one run. Saj Amirs wicket meant Walmley stood at 16-2 from the first five overs. Shaki Thakors off spin took three wickets, and victims for Amir and Martin Rose left Walmley just behind the run rate. But as harder hitting batsmen came to the crease, Walmley eased to 138-6 with two overs remaining. David Woakes finished with 4-16-0 and Shashi Thakor 4-24-3.
