Loss against Elford in final league match

2 July
Aston Manor Over 40s v Elford Over 40s
Warwickshire Over 40s League Away

In the final league game, reduced to 15 overs per side due to threatening rain, Aston Manor got off to a poor start, losing three key wickets for few runs in the early overs. Chris Wooding’s 19 and Ian Bosworth’s 22 retired hurt helped consolidate the innings, but the Manor generally struggled on a challenging wicket in reaching 82-5.

In reply, the visitors were unable to match Elford’s economical use of the wet ball, with wayward deliveries often reaching the boundary, as their opener hit 53 not out in a 87-2 total with five overs to spare.

The disappointing result still means Aston Manor finish second in the league. For a first season which included victories against far stronger Four Oaks and Walmley sides, this is a great success, helped by excellent team spirit and energy in the field.
