2 wins out of 2 for the Over 40s

12 June
Aston Manor Over 40s v Four Oaks Saints Over 40s
Warwickshire Over 40s League Home

Heavy rain in the Birmingham area escaped Perry Barr, and Aston Manor were asked to bat by the visitors in cloudy conditions.

Tony Heaney regularly hit boundaries as he raced to 40 before becoming Four Oaks first victim. Austen Imber and Simon Bowen, who made a quick 26, then pushed the score past 150. Chris Woodings late runs saw Aston Manor reach 172 for the loss of only two wickets, with Imber remaining not out on 91.

A strong Four Oaks top order looked capable of challenging the high total, but encountered a combative Aston Manor side whose energetic fielding and controlled bowling held back the required run rate.

The opening and first change bowling trio of Barry Holbutt, Geoff Knowles and Martin Rose, aggregate age nearing 200, took four of the five Four Oaks wickets to fall. High class catches by Ian Bosworth and Steve Knowles ensured key chances were taken. Economical spells from Heaney and Steve Knowles restricted Four Oaks to 137-5, giving Aston Manor their second league victory.

The next three Over 40s league games are away to Nuneaton (Wednesday 19 June), Walmley (Wednesday 26 June) and Elford (Tuesday 2 July), 6.30pm start. In view of the expanding squad, and the need to balance participation policy with requests to more aggressively pursue league victories, additional friendlies are planned, some this season if possible and up to 15 league and friendly fixtures next season.

Spectators including former players are welcome. Anyone wishing to be added to the playing squad, please contact Austen Imber, 07910 775014, and likewise anyone wishing to be added to the email database for fixtures notifications, or former players able to assemble Over-40s teams for future friendlies against Aston Manor.
