52 Run Win to Aston Manor

Aston Manor 4ths 212 for 8 off 45 overs
Weoley Hill 160 all out from 37 overs
A 52 run win to Aston Manor

Put into bat Manor made steady progress on a powder crust surface of varying bounce. Mick Neville out to a superb catch brought in debutant Ali Ashraf who took the attack to Weoley with a 44 ball 53 (10x 4; 1x 6). As Usman Rana fell for a hard fought 35 the score was 127 off 30 overs, there was just enough room to fit in a quick-fire 48 ball 67 made up of 7 fours and 4 sixes from the lithe form of one Tony Heaney. Many thanks Alan for retrieving off the rail tracks. So, a total 212 set, with a little more support maybe a higher target should have been made.

Manor took to the field with a new keeper in the form of Reece Murray who performed admirably throughout, growing into the job as he took on the advice of Messieurs Neville and Heaney.

Liam Rake again bowled well for little return (1/36 off 11).Geoff took one as Weoley started to get away. The introduction of Ali stopped the flow of runs with a 10 over spell that returned 4/36. As Weoley tried to break free the youngsters Kieran Carroll (2/27 off 5) and Milky Burn (0/11 off 3) stood firm, leaving Avon Turner to terrorise the tail to plunder the last 2 wickets (2/15 off 3). Many thanks to the old-heads, their advice and experience is much appreciated. A good all round display. Some of us more round than others…
