4ths Lose Against Attock

Attock 4ths 152 all out in 36.4 overs
Aston Manor 4ths 126 all out in 36.4 overs

Another loss. Hope this is not becoming a habit.

Solid bowling all round saw Attocks strike batsmen thwarted. Scoring rates never rose above much more than 3 an over as Liam Rake (1 for 17 off 10) and Geoff Knowles (1 for 18 off 7) kept things tight. Minnie Heaney (0 for 20) and Usman Rana (3 for 24) continued the good work before the youngsters of Kieran Carroll (2 for 32), Adnan Akhtar (1 for 12) and W Turner (1 for 20) finished things off with the help of some superb fielding (especially the younger members).

At tea 153 to win looked very gettable….

After 20 off the 1st over from Alex Rose even more so,…

Well ahead of the asking rate the score pushed ever upwards in spite of losing wickets to poor shot selection. Several stoppages for the weather put a result at risk so we continued to return to the square being ahead of the rate, needing to get 25 overs in.

Unfortunately the wicket wouldn’t drain, the ball wouldn’t dry, slippy footings on the run ups etc slowed the game to a crawl. The wicket killed any pace making it difficult to get the ball of the square. A sterling 35 from Usman held the innings together for awhile. Contributions of 27 from Alex, 16 from Reece Murray and 14 from Liam were unsupported. A pathetic shot from the skipper saw him out LBW (missed full toss…!) exposing the tail. Left to the youth to try to get another 30 runs on a swamp was too much to ask. Young and old we’re all learning lessons. We just need to learn them quicker…..
