Weakened 2nds chase down big total

2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two North
Pelsall 291-7
Aston Manor 294-4

With no fewer than six players unavailable from the previous week, skipper Steve Knowles must have feared the worst after the visitors smashed 291-7 from their 50 overs on a superb Church Road batting surface. Craig Reynolds (2-64) and 14 year old Sahal Malvekar (1-35) were the only wicket takers amongst the seam bowlers, but spinners Haroon Mohammed (3-29) and Trent Turner (1-46) did give their Captain some element of control.

All of Knowles’s concerns were dismissed by stand in opener Shozab Haider who in a magnificent display of clean hitting smashed 21 fours and 9 sixes on his way to 160. Adam Nevitt (76) offered tremendous support as the openers took the game away from Pelsall in emphatic style. Veteran Dave Bond (25no) was called up at the last minute due to the shortage of players and ensured Manor reached their target for the loss of only 4 wickets with 10.5 overs still remaining.

A quite extraordinary victory on the back of an extraordinary innings.
