Sunday 2nds Win To Stay Up

The Sunday league season has drawn to a close with a must win game for the seconds, win stay up lose be relegated.

The right result was reached for the Manor, posting a total of 200 for 5 thanks to an unbeaten 71 from test match Turner and 60 from Vinay Thakur, with 25 from Waqar Ali and 15 not out from Steve Knowles

A close finish was reached with Nether Whitacre reaching 182 for 6 at the close, with Owais taking 3 wickets for 22 runs.

Most thanks for this result must go to Dennis Palmer, Paul Brown and Trents father who stepped in when we didnt have the transport to get to the match at Whitacre, and would have had to give up the points and been relegated.

During the season due to the weather only 9 matches were completed.

It is imperative that these Sunday league fixtures are maintained, which are giving our youth players league experience. During this season we had a total of 13 youth players playing in the second XI, and this was to either bat or bowl not just to make up the numbers, and they all performed magnificently.

Thanks must go to Keith who did the vast majority of the work in getting the teams together, and Andy for fronting up the first XI.

I have enjoyed taking these players out onto the field this season albeit not a position I particularly wanted, and I will most definitely NOT be captaining the side next season, but somebody MUST take up the baton and keep it going for the sake of the superb youths we have at the club, and we do not want them to have to go looking for league cricket elsewhere.

Signing off for the last time as skipper, Geoff (Brucie, Wing Commander, G man) Knowles
