Spirited 2nd XI Performance

2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two (South)
Pershore 280-8
Aston Manor 221-6

A much depleted Manor team gave a spirited performance to gain a hard earned draw at table topping Pershore.

Full credit must go to the players who normally play 3rd XI Cricket but gave such a good account of themselves in this match.

Pershore got off to flyer posting 100 runs from the first ten overs, but were pegged back by Manor’s two spinners, Trent Turner (12-2-50-3) and Junior Johnson (15-1-58-1) who bowled excellently in tandem. Shaun Carroll (3-69) also impressed as the hosts had to finally settle for 280-8 from their 50 overs.

In the face of some hostile bowling from Darren Critcher (3-38) Manor found themselves in serious trouble at 55-5. However, Johnson displayed his all round ability with an excellent undefeated century (100no) to see Manor through to safety. He was first supported by an admirable effort from Mark Christian (51) before spin pal and Captain Trent Turner (13no) ensured that Manor would keep themselves within touch of Pershore at the top of the Division.
