Manors title hopes dented

Birmingham League Division Two
2nd XI
Aston Manor 165-6
Penn 168-7
PENN WIN BY TWO WICKETS

A depleted Manor side saw their title hopes dented as they lost a close and tense encounter away at fellow promotion candidates Penn.

After being asked to bat first on a damp track with a very slow outfield the visitors found scoring runs difficult despite an encouraging knock from Nabeel Asghar (23) who was making his first start of the season after injury. A solid partnership between Trent Turner (14) and the impressive Sharafath Yoosuf (72 no) appeared to set the platform for a substantial total, but the innings fell away somewhat although a total of 165-6 was always going to be competitive.

On debut young Kieran Carroll (2-33) bowled superbly to get Manor off to a promising start, and Asghar (2-18) kept up the pressure with some fine spin bowling. Fielding has been one of the strong points this season, but unfortunately several dropped catches let the team down badly in this match, as Oliver Slimm (48no) and Stuart Price (30) built a partnership to secure the hosts victory with one over remaining. Never has the saying catches win matches rung so true!
