Manor win high scoring affair

2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two (South)
Handsworth 348-4
Aston Manor 349-6
ASTON MANOR WON BY 4 WICKETS

It was certainly not a day to be a bowler at Church Road! The visitors put Manor’s bowling to the sword as they closed their innings on 348-4 from their 50 overs. Sean Weinand (101) led the way with Jaynesh Patel (86), Damien Smith (73) and Anton Johnson (51) also enjoying the perfect batting conditions. Young Sahal Malvernker (2-74) was probably the pick of Manor’s bowlers, although skipper Trent Turner (15-0-70-1) also worked hard to slow the stem of runs.

Manor’s confidence in chasing down totals is high at the moment and this wasn’t dented by the loss of an early wicket. Kamran Zaman (72) continued his fine form and along with Adam Nevitt (36) built a platform for the onslaught to follow. Sahal Malvernker (54) also impressed before some explosive hitting from Joe Griffiths (72) got Manor up with the required rate. Waqas Younis (80no) was also in blistering form and in partnership with Trent Turner (20no) saw the hosts through to a thrilling victory with 5 balls to spare. In chasing down such a large total everyone has to bat for the team and not for individual glory and this was definitely the case as Manor’s young side gave further evidence that they may be able to launch a serious bid for promotion.
