Manor lose high scoring encounter

2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two North
Aston Manor 300-9
Oswestry 301-6

Oswestry proved why they are top of the League with a hugely impressive run chase to beat Manor at Church Road in a match which was a credit to 2nd XI cricket.

A splendid innings from Mohammad Aquil (51) together with a quick-fire 22 from Peter Evans got Manor off to an encouraging start. Andrew Forman (35) looked in fine form in a partnership with the incredible Austen Imber (106) which at one stage threatened to take the game away from the visitors. Despite being the senior citizen of the team, Imber was awesome with his power hitting in achieving his 5th century of the season for various teams at the club. After his dismissal Manor struggled to continue their run fest in the face of some fine bowling from Owen Aspinall (3-20). Trent Turner (33no) added late useful runs as the hosts finally had to settle on 300-9 from their 50 overs.

Oswestry’s reply was built around a superb unbeaten century from opener Josh Kirk (118no). Steve Humphreys (58) gave him good support, but all through Manor’s bowling was accurate and fielding excellent as they tried to stem the flow of runs. Steve Knowles (2-52) and Peter Evans (2-56) were the pick of the bowlers, and with Shaun Carroll and Trent Turner also grabbing a wicket each, Manor appeared to be well in the game when they reduced the visitors to 216-6. However number 8 bat Jonathan Davies (62no) took the game away from them with some explosive hitting to see his side through to victory.

There was certainly no disgrace in losing such a high quality game of cricket.
