Hard fought win against Moseley Ashfield

2nd XI
Moseley Ashfield 208 all out
Aston Manor 212-8
ASTON MANOR WON BY 2 WICKETS

This victory at Church Road keeps alive the hope that second placed Manor can still catch runaway leaders Bedworth, but they will need to win their top of the table clash next week.

Manor will also have to play a lot better, as this victory against bottom of the table Moseley Ashfield, was arguably Manor’s worst performance of the season. Apart from the impressive Kieran Carroll (2-46) the bowling was inconsistent and the fielding sloppy. Steve Knowles (2-51), Reece Murray (2-59) and Shaun Carroll (1-23) were the other wicket takers as Ashfield were finally dismissed for 208.

On such a good batting track to chase down that total should have been no trouble for the hosts. However the top four, Abdul Rahim (26), Mohammed Iqbal (17), Andrew Forman (15) and Scott Bryson (13), all got a decent start and looked untroubled before throwing their wickets away with careless shots. Manor were indebted to a splendid innings from the young talented Waqas Younis (67) to bring them back into the game. Once his fine effort was over it was left to Trent Turner (24no) to see Manor through to victory with an innings of great application and composure.
