Fordhouses beaten

A lovely afternoon at Church Road, provided host to opponents Fordhouses who began their season well. After a successful result last week, Manor were looking to build upon that performance, with new skipper Trent Turner eager to build a winning streak.

After losing the toss, Manor were put in to field in lovely conditions. The Fordhouses batsmen struggled against the opening bowling of Aston Manor, as they nipped the ball around on a glorious surface. Shaun Carroll (2-25) struck twice early on to leave Fordhouses reeling. Just as Fordhouses began to build partnerships, Manor struck at important intervals. Jack Hobbis (5-34) bowled excellently, removing Fordhouses opener Cheema who scored an important 87 for his side. New skipper Trent Turner (2-52) supported Hobbis brilliantly, as the two spinners tied down Fordhouses, and took important wickets, reducing them to 186-9 off their 50 overs.

After the break, Manor came out chasing 187 for victory. After getting starts, the top 3 gave their wickets away leaving the home side with a big task at hand to get the victory. Scott Bryson (61*) and Shahid Kureshi (51) both played superbly in tandem to rescue Manor and push them closer to their target, before Kureshi was removed. Trent Turner (9*) then came to the crease to see his side home and get another valuable victory in his first game as captain. Another 24 points for Aston Manor.
