Fordhouses beaten in closely fought game

Aston Manor – 2nd XI vs Fordhouses CC
AMCC 2nd XI 164 All Out off 45 overs
Fordhouses 133 All out off 47.2 overs
AMCC win 24 points

For the first time Manors batting didnt really fire under the pressure of a very dry pitch (having been covered and previously damp) and really windy conditions making judgment difficult throughout.

An excellent steadying knock by the increasingly confident Waqas Younis (37) was built on by Scott Bryson who ‘s 55 in the conditions and with Fordhouses young spinner coming into the fore was on of real quality. Equally but not as fluent was Shozi Haider with another 35 built in partnership with Scott seemingly starting to get us back on track.

Then three wickets in one over from Dobson and then a real collapse taking Manor from looking at over 200 to all out on 164. Adam Nevitt the only one to continue to show promise and poise before being very well caught (by Dobson again, who couldnt keep out of the action, he finished with 6 for 15 – but this was down to our batting failing mainly).

Bowling was a tale of two ends as the wind picked up to one of the strongest ever faced – bowling with the wind Ricky Bassi was unplayable and to only get one wicket was unjustified – snicks through slips and gaps and lots of playing and missing. At the other end seamers balance was not easy so giving the ball to Trent Turner for off spin (14-4-26-2) was a bit of a risk. But in partnership with the excellent Jack Hobbis, who finally got the rewards for the past few weeks bowling (15-5-39-5) the spin twins did the job.

Wresting control back and fantastically supported in the field by great ground fielding and a superb Shozi Haider runout the pressure was built superbly finished off with Shaun Carroll doing the fast bowling bit of knocking out the poles at the end.

Further great evidence of the character of the young team with top of the table fixture against Smethwick to come. We can go into the game with confidence and belief – keep trusting your ability guys it is right up there.
