Evesham Blown Away

Aston Manor came away with a remarkable victory and the maximum 24 points from their trip to Worcester, a result which lifts them back to third in the table and sees them remain in contention for promotion.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, the Squirrels found themselves in all kinds of trouble as they slumped to 56-7, which was due to a combination of poor shot selection and poor umpiring.

However, a stand of 47 for the 8th wicket between Ricky Bassi (45) and Scott “Stiffler” Bryson (12) saw the 100 come up. Another valuable partnership of 19 for the final wicket, involving Ricky Bassi and Shaun Carroll, saw the final total stand at 127. This was a great effort by the lower order which gave the Manor bowlers a glimmer of hope.

A great controlled bowling performance, assisted by some excellent fielding, saw the home side reduced to 63-9 in reply. If Manor thought the game was over though they were in for a shock as the final pair for Evesham, Pool and Graham, decided attack was the best way to go. They moved the score along to 104-9 before the rain came, leaving the game finely balanced.

After a 30 minute break the rain ceased and it was game on. On the second ball after the resumption Manor thought they had blown their chance when Abdul Rahim dropped a sitter at mid-wicket. He was the most relieved man on the field however, when with the first ball of the next over Shaun Carroll clean bowled Graham (21), leaving Pool stranded at the other end (19no) and the Squirrels celebrating the unlikeliest of victories.

Shaun Carroll (3-33), Abeed “The Saudi Express” Farooqui (3-22) and Abdul Rahim (4-20) produced magnificent bowling displays to secure the victory.
