Career Best Spell Demolishes Coleshill

An Aston Manor side containing three Under 15s and two Under 13s, completed a convincing 92 run victory away at Coleshill on Saturday to move back to third in the table.

Having lost the toss (again!) Manor were asked to bat on a slightly damp wicket. Nabeel Asghar (34) and Steve Evans (25) put compiled a solid opening partnership of 64, the first time this season an opening partnership had passed the half century mark. Some solid hitting in the middle order from Shahid Kureshi (56), well supported by Saj Amir (20) saw the Squirrels post a respectable 179 all out from 49 overs.

Any chance Coleshill had of winning the game were quickly destroyed by a devastating opening spell from Shaun Carroll, who took 4 wickets in 5 balls (all bowled) to leave the hosts in trouble at 20-4. The fifth wicket went down soon after, courtesy of Ian Prichard (1-17) on his return to the side. This gave the perfect opportunity to allow two Under 13s bowlers to gain some valuable senior experience and they didnt disappoint. Brinder Phagura showed great control in taking 1-7 from 6 overs, and Kieran Carroll in his first senior game was extremely unlucky not to take a wicket, ending with 0-14 off his 4 overs.

However it was Shaun Carroll who stole the show, coming back on to complete the victory and finishing with career best figures of 8-21 from 10 overs. Remarkably seven of his eight victims were bowled.

Congratulations to Shaun, hopefully he can repeat the feat a few more times in the years ahead.
