2s fall to another defeat
2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two (North)
Aston Manor 155 all out
Whitchurch 156-8
WHITCHURCH WON BY 2 WICKETS
Despite falling to another defeat this was a much improved performance from Manor.
On a difficult wicket new Captain Trent Turner battled through 106 deliveries to make a hard earned 39, but only Abdul Rahim (57) was able to make a major contribution alongside him as Manor were dismissed for a disappointing 155.
However, in the face of some excellent bowling from Avon Turner (10-3-34-5) the hosts found batting equally difficult as they slumped to 94/7. Manor’s fielding throughout had been very good but unfortunately two key catches went down at this stage and Richard Weaver (36no) made the visitors pay as he steered his side home to a narrow two wicket victory. It was harsh on the young Manor side with Craig Reynolds (10-1-39-1) and Sahal Malvernker (8-2-19-1) also being very impressive, but insufficient runs were posted by the batsmen despite the difficulty of the wicket, and as the old true saying goes ‘catches win matches’
