2s come close to victory against leaders

Division Four
Aston Manor 2nd XI 291-6
Warwick University 1st XI 242-9

Manor’s 2nd XI kept their outside chances of promotion alive with this excellent performance at Church Road against the league leaders, but they will also be rueing the fact that they were unable to take the final wicket to seal an outstanding victory.

Despite the loss of a couple of early wickets on a superb batting track the hosts remained undeterred and a splendid partnership between Arun Toora (81) and Kamran Zaman (75) put the Perry Barr team into a strong position. Craig Reynolds (72no) added the late fireworks in impressive style as Manor closed on a commanding 291-6 from 50 overs.

The confidence of being top of the table meant that the University side were always going to try and chase this total down, but Manor to their credit continued to remain disciplined and took wickets at important times to keep their progress in check. Some fiery bowling from Avon Turner (3-33) then blew away the visitors middle order, but unfortunately Manor couldn’t grab that final wicket to earn what would have been an impressive victory.
