2nds slump to another defeat

2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two (North)
Aston Manor 246-8
Fordhouses 247-4
FORDHOUSES WON BY 6 WICKETS

Another poor all round performance saw Manor 2nd Xi slip to yet another defeat at Church Road.

Having first use of a good batting track too many of Manor’s front line batsmen got themselves out playing reckless shots before they were settled. Abdul Rahim (28) and Andrew Forman (25) did get themselves in and settled, and both looked in very good form and set for a big score, however they still managed to find ways of getting themselves out! The only exception was youngster Sahal Malvernker (60) who showed his more experienced counterparts exactly how to build an innings and play with the correct degree of patience and aggression. After being reduced to 115-5, Manor were only able to reach a reasonable total of 246-8 due to Malvernker and an impressive late order partnership between Mark Christian (32) and Craig Reynolds (23).

The Fordhouses openers took full advantage of the fielding restrictions to race to 80-0 from only 10 overs and virtually take the game away from Manor. Throughout the innings Manor bowled far too many poor deliveries and it was not possible to build any pressure on the batsman. In defence of the bowlers they were not helped by an indifferent fielding performance which saw three catches dropped. One exception to the fielding demise was veteran Steve Knowles who produced a champagne moment with an absolutely stunning catch. Ultimately the visitors ran out comfortable winners with Manor’s best bowler Shaun Carroll grabbing two wickets and Craig Reynolds and Avon Turner one apiece.
