ASTON MANOR WON BY 3 WICKETS

After the disappointment of last weeks’ abandoned game, Manor finally got their season underway with a victory at Church Road but the performance level will have to improve immensely if a serious promotion campaign is to be launched.

With the exception of Craig Reynolds (3-56), Manor’s bowling was far too erratic and wayward until stand in skipper Trent Turner (10-4-15-1) brought some control to the proceedings with his tidy variety of off spinners. The bowlers were not helped by dropped catches and sloppy fielding and it was left to Manor’s other spinner, Haroon Mohammed (3-28) to ensure that the visitors were finally dismissed for a competitive total of 252.

With the early loss of both experienced openers Manor appeared to be in trouble before a splendid partnership between Waqas Younis (88) and Joe Griffiths (42) saw Manor regain control and be set up for what appeared to be a fairly comfortable victory. However, once this partnership was broken wickets fell quickly and it was left to Trent Turner (33no), receiving solid support from Craig Reynolds, to complete a fine all round performance and see Manor over the line with an over to spare.
