2nd XI
Birmingham League Division Two (North)
Cannock 146-9 (50 overs)
Aston Manor 147-7 (47 overs)

Aston Manors young side produced another polished and mature performance to defeat a strong Cannock team and move within two points of table topping Smethwick. Despite some fine bowling by youngsters Shaun Carroll and Jack Hobbis it was actually the experienced duo of Abdul Rahim (4-21) and Austen Imber (3-31) who were instrumental in restricting the visitors to a competitive 146-9 from their 50 overs. Yet again the bowlers were well supported by a spirited and athletic performance in the field.

Chasing down the total was never going to be easy in difficult batting conditions, and so it proved as the hosts were reduced to 57-5 in the face of some fine bowling by Phillip Heighway (3-45) and Nick Bell (3-24). However, this team has great self-belief, as well as talent, and shows an impressive growing maturity which was highlighted in a fine partnership between youngsters Scott Bryson (29) and Roman Amir (29) which brought Manor back into the game and laid the platform for victory. Another two youngsters, Adam Nevitt (18no) and Jack Hobbis (13no) then both batted with great sense and purpose to see Manor through to an excellent victory.
