2nds fall short against Smethwick
2nd XI
Smethwick 235-7
Aston Manor 188 all out
SMETHWICK WON BY 47 RUNS
Unfortunately Manor 2nd XI were not able to build on last weeks success and fell to defeat against a strong Smethwick side.
Manor had restricted their opponents very well with the ball until Mohammad Hasnain smashed a quickfire 89 not out to see the hosts close on 235-7. Overall, Manor’s young attack bowled very well, but a special mention is well deserved for left arm spinner Rikesh Patel who finished with impressive figures of 3-34. Patel has played predominantly 3rd and 4th XI Cricket this season, but with further opportunities now being given toward the end of the season at a higher level Patel definitely staked his claim for consideration in the future along with Sahal Malvernker and Avon Turner who both also grabbed a wicket each.
Manor’s top three of Abdul Rahim (59), Kamran Zaman (28) and Joe Griffiths (24) gave their side a great platform as they reached 118-1 before collapsing to a very disappointing 188 all out. A lack of experience of how to play the spin bowling of Nasser Ahmad (5-39) was the predominant factor with no fewer than five of the Manor youngsters managing to get themselves out stumped!
