2nds back to winning ways

2nd XI
Aston Manor 250-9
Nuneaton 168 all out

Manors 2nd XI returned back to form with a very impressive performance to gain a nail biting victory at Church Road.

The visitors may have regretted their decision to ask Manor to bat first as experienced openers Mohammed Aquil (86) and Abdul Rahim (61) were in sparkling form in an opening partnership of 154. Andrew Forman (37) and Adam Nevitt (22) kept up the momentum with some bright and breezy stroke play, and although there was a late order collapse the hosts were still able to post a daunting total of 250-9 from their 50 overs.

Some fine early bowling, particularly from Shaun Carroll and skipper Steve Knowles, had reduced the visitors to 77-4, but a solid innings from Tim Bates (57) led a recovery from Nuneaton and at 133/5 from 39 overs a draw seemed almost inevitable. The reintroduction of Shaun Carroll (4-25) and brother Kieran (3-35) completely changed the context of the game. Both bowled with great aggression to leave Manor on the verge of victory, before another of the clubs young quick bowling prospects, Michael Byrne, grabbed his second wicket in the penultimate over to secure an exciting victory.
