Winning start comes to an end at C & R Hawkins

1st XI
Birmingham League Division 3
C & R Hawkins 260 all out
Aston Manor 167 all out
C & R HAWKINS WON BY 93 RUNS

Aston Manor’s promising start to the season was brought to an abrupt end with a heavy defeat away at C & R Hawkins.

The visitors never really managed to get into their groove on a grey and dismal day as Hawkins used knowledge of their home ground and conditions to great advantage in amassing an impressive score of 260 before being finally bowled out. Ex Manor pro Muhammad Fayaz (81) was the main contributor for the Staffordshire side. One major plus for Manor was the return to form and fitness of George Findlay, who bowled with great pace and aggression in returning impressive figures of 6-42.

The use of a heavy roller on the wicket in-between innings seemed to have an adverse effect on batting conditions as the bounce became inconsistent on the still damp track.

Manor were bogged down from the start and only briefly threatened to challenge the home sides total during a fine partnership between Shaun Findlay (44) and in form Simon Mugava (64). Once this partnership was broken Manor capitulated losing their last 7 wickets for only 47 runs to end on a disappointing 167 all out with opener Tom Caulfield (20) the only other batsman to reach double figures.

Manor are still in second place in the League, and need to refocus their attentions to make sure that their good start to the season is not wasted.
