Winning run continues

Manors Sunday 1st XI kept up their winning run in the Lichfield League with a 62 run victory away at Cannock Wood.

It was certainly a culture shock for some of the visitors to be introduced to village cricket at the most basic of venues. The hosts, and the teas they provided, were excellent, but the pitch was probably the worst that a lot of the Manor lads have played on and should hopefully help them appreciate the tremendous facilities we have at Church Road.

Batting first, great determination in difficult conditions was shown by all to support Kyle Schreuder (56) who proved yet again that he is a class act on any surface. A total of 154 looked like being a match winning effort, and so it proved. The hosts had no answer to the seam bowling of Shaun Carroll (4 wickets), Scott Bryson (3 wickets), Jon Meacham (2 wickets) and Wajid Hussain who grabbed his first for the club since his Under 13 days!

Yet again, our Captain, Mr Wooding, was inspirational, grabbing the gloves at the last moment and taking 3 stunning catches to help dismiss Cannock Wood for 92 and keep Manors league title aspirations alive.

For those not deterred by age or religion the afternoon finished with a very pleasant beer in the local pub with the friendly opposition. Just how Cricket used to be played in a bygone era.
