Weather Intervenes
The debut at Church Road of ex England international, Phillip deFreitas, turned into a damp squib for Aston Manor as the match against Whitchurch had to be abandoned following a torrential snow and hail storm! Manor had made an encouraging start reaching 29-0 from four overs before the weather intervened.
Manor’s 2nd XI had battled to 71-4 in very difficult batting conditions at Rectory Road against Sutton Coldfield before again the weather had the final say and the 3rd XI encounter with Collymore Cavaliers did not see even one ball bowled!
This week Manor 1st XI are away at highly rated Fordhouses and should be boosted by the arrival of their South African overseas player, Byron Wingard, who has now had his Visa application accepted.
As well as being 1st XI player and coach deFreitas will be organising and coaching Manor’s youth section on Friday evenings in an attempt to help to restore the section back to its former glories! If any youngsters are interested please contact the Club for details on 0121 356 6537
Manor’s new electronic scoreboard will be officially opened on Friday 13 May by ex-Manor youngster and current England international Chris Woakes. After the opening there will be opportunities for a question and answer session with Chris, Phil de Freitas and ex Villa legends Gary Shaw and Jake Findlay.
