Weakened Manor outplay Worcester

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 216 all out
Worcester 103 all out

Despite the absence of several 1st XI regulars Manor produced arguably their best performance of the season to comprehensively outplay their Worcestershire opponents at the old Army barracks ground in Norton.

However the day had not started well for the Perry Barr side as Worcester made good use of the new ball taking two early wickets and then reducing the visitors to a precarious 47-3. However Shaun Findlay chose the perfect time to return to form with a superb innings of 89 on a difficult wicket. With Russell Guy (42) offering excellent support the duo turned the match in Manor’s favour with a tremendous partnership full of determination and positive stroke play. Masood Iqbal (29) and Imran Khan (19) added useful late runs to see the visitors finally dismissed for a very competitive total of 216 in the 54th over.

Manor’s opening bowling pair of Masood Iqbal (13-3-29-2) and Imran Khan (10-4-13-2) used the helpful conditions expertly to ensure that the hosts innings never gained any momentum. The control that they gave the side enabled spin twins Shaun Findlay (3-27) and debutant James Harris (3-28) to bowl in a positive and exciting way to see Manor through to an impressive victory with Worcester finally succumbing to the pressure being bowled out for only 103. Manor’s fielding was of the highest order in complementing the excellence of their bowlers. The ground fielding was keen and sharp throughout and every catch offered was held with particularly fine efforts from Tom Caulfield, Trent Turner and Adam Nevitt.
