Superb Comeback Against St Georges

On a brighter day in Telford, a positive result was crucial in this battle of the basement boys. The day did not get off to the best start with the injured captain losing the toss and being asked to bat first. Manor soon found themselves in trouble with the loss of early wickets reducing them to 48-4. Debutant Fawad Ahmad hit a quickfire and impressive 24 before being stumped trying to push along the rate, before Ryan Van Niekerk stepped to the crease and crafted a fantastic innings of 69 before being bowled by fellow South African Godfrey Stevens. Manor again found themselves in trouble at 130-7 before a fantastic inning off 55 by Shozab Haider, sponsored by ODC Future Thinking, supported by Ricky Bassi (19) and Peter Evans 19*, sponsored by CKW Tools. Stephen Taylor did the majority of damage for St. Georges bowling two impressive spells and returning figures of 4-52, but could not stop Manor posting an impressive total of 223.

Manor were going to have to bowl and field with much more control than on Saturday, and started well with Arfan Khan (17-7-48-1) sending down four maidens at the start of the innings. The star of the show was Ryan Van Niekerk who took wickets at regular intervals and decimated the Shropshire side with pace and swing to finish with figures of 17-5-39-7, to round off a man-of-the-match performance. Nabeel Asghar, sponsored by RK-SIPS Design Limited and Shozab Haider wrapped up the innings to bowl the hosts out for 121 and give the young Squirrels a vital 24 points.
