Sunday 1sts Remain Top

Aston Manor maintained their position at the top of Lichfield League Division One with a crushing 8 wicket victory against Cannock Wood at Church Road on Sunday.

Jason Furnell took over as skipper in the absence of influential guru Chris Wooding, and then proceeded to lose the toss, which unfortunately meant that the visitors opted to bat first!

Their batting line up had no answer to Manors young bowling attack as they were dismissed for only 83. The wickets were split between 16 year old Brinder Phagura (5), 17 year old Marcus Simmons (3) and veteran of the piece 20 year old Nagga Pravakar (2). 15 year old Kieran Carroll and 18 year old Jack Hobbis also bowled well without success.

Amardeep Sonkar was in a rush to finish the game off, smashing 22 in the first over as Manor cruised to 84-2 with the experienced Sharafath Yoosuf seeing the game out with a well-made 32 not out in partnership with another youngster 18 year old Alex Rose. With 15 year old Adam Nevitt having another fine game behind the stumps it was definitely an encouraging afternoon for the future of Aston Manor!
