Sonkar shines as Manor draw against Bridgnorth

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Bridgnorth 317-4
Aston Manor 270-6
Match Drawn

After last weeks run fest draw against second placed Tamworth, Manor were again involved in another high scoring game, this time away at third placed Bridgnorth.

The hosts opted to bat first, and although Manor grabbed a couple of early wickets, the Shropshire duo of James Ralph (161) and Jono Whitney (67) imposed their class on proceedings as Bridgnorth posted an imposing total of 317-4 from their 55 overs. Arfan Khan took a couple of wickets and Manor bowled with control and accuracy but the batting was of the highest order on a very flat track.

Manor were confident of a positive run chase, but their hopes were shattered by the loss of three early wickets with only 21 on the board. Thankfully after last weeks ton against Tamworth, Armadeep Sonkar was full of confidence and he produced a magnificent innings which even surpassed the effort by Ralph earlier in the match. Nabeel Asghar and Andrew Forman both batted sensibly to support the Indian batsman who was quite superb finishing on 186 not out. He smashed 18 fours and 6 sixes in one of the most complete batting performances seen by an Aston Manor batsman in a very long time. Once the game was safe, Aurell Kirnon (33no) also joined in the fun with some explosive late hitting as Manor closed on a very respectable 270-6 in response to such a large total.
