So Near Yet So Far

On a warm day at Church Road, skipper Evans won the toss and decided to have a bowl on what looked another cracking track. And thats what it proved to be as the batsmen progressed, albeit it slowly, with relative ease. The spinners Evans (17-3-57-1) and 15 year old Nabeel Asghar (17-1-78-4) bowled the lions share of the overs. The Sutton openers got their team off to a solid start with both registering half centuries, Clarke (55) and Parker (53), Evans and Asghar combined to blow away the middle order, but the big late hitting of Stephen Booth (43*) saw Sutton to 232-6 off their 55 overs.

Manors reply started very well with Whittock (65) and Latif (38) seeing Manor to a strong position of 123-2, however with the gradual but steady fall of wickets Manor were left needing 1 run off two balls with two wickets in hand for the precious victory. The large Manor crowd sat in expectation, however, two run outs off the final two balls including a direct hit from youngster Klapper saw the game tied, with each side receiving 8 points plus their bonus points each. Richard Norgrove was the star for Sutton taking 4-46.
