MATCH DRAWN
Manors hopes of a third successive victory was thwarted by the weather at a wet and damp Church Road on Saturday.
Manor were asked to bat first in difficult conditions and soon found themselves in serious trouble at 48-5 in the face of some fine bowling from the visitors captain Matthew Eyer who finished with 4-24. With extravagant seam movement off the pitch, Shozab Haider decided the best option to resurrect the innings was all out attack. This approach paid handsome dividends as he hammered a quick fire 53 and in partnership with in form George Findlay (23) saw Manor through to a very competitive total of 153 being finally being bowled out.
In reply Ewer (30) also showed his capabilities with the bat as Rugby made a steady start to their innings. However, Aurel Kirnon (3-43) continued his excellent start to the season and along with his opening bowling partner Arfan Khan (2-40) took wickets at regular intervals to keep the visitors innings in check. Several breaks for rain interrupted Manors momentum but the pace of George Findlay (2-21) and the spin of Shaun Findlay (2-11) together with a good fielding performance kept the hosts in the ascendancy. Unfortunately the weather had the final say as Manor were unable to claim the last wicket to keep up their 100% start to the season.
