Resounding Loss Against Evesham

1st XI Birmingham League Division Two
Aston Manor 144 all out
Evesham 145-0

A heavy defeat away at table topping Evesham has left Aston Manor in serious relegation trouble with only four games remaining.

In a rain restricted match, Manor was asked to bat first and was soon in trouble at 31-3 despite some encouraging resilience from youngster Nabeel Asghar sponsored by RK-SIPS Design Limited (17). Shozab Haider sponsored by ODC Future Thinking (23), Ryan van Nierkerk (17) and Andrew Forman sponsored by Jackson Calvert Chartered Accountants (16) all got starts in the middle order, but none of them were able to make the required significant contribution before some late resistance by Arfan Khan (17no) saw Manor finally dismissed for 144 with Chris Cheslin (4-55) being their chief tormentor.

On a helpful wicket Manor would have hoped for some early wickets to put their hosts under pressure, but openers Sam Cheshire (99no) and Sam ONeill (37no) were having none of that as they smashed an unusually lethargic Manor attack to all parts of the ground to clinch a resounding victory.

Manor now have two vital home games over the Bank Holiday weekend, against promotion chasing Berkswell on Saturday and Harborne on Monday, in which they desperately need to find a win to ease their relegation fears.
