Rain Affected Loss Vs Old Elizabethans

The first home fixture of the season brought with it the obligatory terrible weather and credit to the groundsman and captains of both teams for managing to get any sort of game on.

Play started at 3.45pm and was reduced to 26 overs a side and the toss was always going to be vital, and unfortunately Manor lost it and were asked to bat first on a Church Road wicket that looked in good condition despite the adverse weather conditions. In an attempt to score quick early runs the hosts were soon in deep trouble, and despite a spirited effort by Neal Prichard (41) they had no answer to ex England international Richard Illingworth (6-21) as they slumped to 83 all out with still one over remaining.

Although Ryan van Nierkerk (3-31) and Arfan Khan (1-33) bowled with great aggression to put the visitors under some pressure they were always in control following Manor’s poor batting display as they reached their target with 6 wickets and 4 overs remaining.

Next up for the young Squirrels is the long journey to Whitchurch … all supporters welcome…!
