Quatt scramble home by 2 wickets

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 135 all out
Quatt 138-8
Quatt won by 2 wickets

Manor slipped to a frustrating and narrow defeat away at Quatt leaving themselves perilously close to the final relegation place from the Birmingham League. There had been torrential overnight rain in Shropshire and unfortunately a lot of water had seeped under the covers to make conditions extremely difficult for batting. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Manor struggled to 25-3 from 17 overs before a gritty and determined partnership between Jake Lee (46no) and Arfan Khan (40) clawed the Perry Barr side back into the match. Unfortunately, Manor were unable to capitalise on the pairs excellent work as further wickets fell cheaply in an attempt to increase the scoring rate with the visitors finally being dismissed for 135 in the 54th over.

As expected, batting conditions improved as the ground dried, but Manor’s seam attack of Aurell Kirnon (3-18), Julius Benjamin (3-41) and Arfan Khan (1-22) were superb as the hosts were reduced to 70-7 with a much needed Manor win looking the most likely outcome. Quatt’s number 8 bat, Chris Harris, however had not read the script and the old adage of ‘catches win matches’ came back to haunt Manor. With Harris only on 10, he offered a routine catch into the covers which was spilled, and then proceeded to make the visitors pay for their error with an unbeaten half century which enabled Quatt to scramble home to a tense 2 wicket victory.
