Manors 8 year stay in the Birmingham League comes to an end

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Milford Hall 209-7
Aston Manor 145 all out
Milford Hall won by 64 runs

Aston Manors’ 8 year stay in the Birmingham League came to an end following this ‘winner take all’ defeat away at Milford Hall.

Manor’s static fielding performance was not helped by a broken finger for keeper Mickey Bromhall as some fine stroke play and excellent running between the wickets by Cottrell (80) and Smith (30) saw the hosts post an imposing total of 209-7 from their rain reduced 45 overs. Armadeep Sonkar (3-38) and Aurell Kirnon (2-36) were the pick of Manors’ bowlers in a disappointing performance after asking Milford to bat in what appeared to be bowler friendly conditions.

When Nabeel Asghar (56) and Aafan Janjua (23) were in partnership Manor looked well in the hunt for victory, but an all too familiar batting collapse ensued in the face of some fine bowling from experienced Guy Bulpitt (4-16) which saw Manor finally bowled out for 145.

Despite the massive disappointment in relegation, all is not doom and gloom at Church Road. Manor have some great potential in their youth ranks, and these youngsters may find the Warwickshire Premier League a more suitable level to develop their skills. If they can do so, then they should grow strong together and help build a team with a great club ethic to lead Manor back into the respected Birmingham League in the not too distant future.
