Manor Win High Scoring Game In Last Over

An amazing game at Church Road saw a total of 548 runs scored as the hosts finally defeated Whittington by 6 runs in a match that they had looked to be total control of until the last five overs.

Batting first Manors innings was built around a superb 156 from Christi Viljoen. The South African smashed the ball to all parts of Perry Barr, receiving good support from fellow opener Jitu Manhadryn (28) and a patient Adam Rana (62) before some late big hitting by Andrew Forman (18no) saw the hosts finish on 277-3 from their 40 overs.

To their credit all of Whittingtons batsmen got decent starts as they chased an unlikely victory. Spinners Nabeel Asghar (1-49) and Manahoh Sehmbi (2-51) kept Manor in control and with 5 overs to go the visitors needed an unlikely 80 runs for victory. As so few batsman had got the crease, the decision was made to give them the opportunity of a game with a bowl!

Unfortunately the next three overs disappeared for 56 runs and the game was back on! The impressive Adam Rana (3-44) was reintroduced into the attack, and in the absence of Viljoen (who was either injured or watching the Test Match!) skipper Andy Forman turned to his own part time medium pace to bowl the last over and see Manor through to nervy 6 run victory.
