Harborne Win by 134 Runs

1st XI Birmingham League Division Two
Harborne 263-8
Aston Manor 129 all out
Harborne won by 134 runs

Aston Manor slipped into the relegation places after a dreadful batting performance saw them well beaten by a very strong Harborne outfit who must be early favourites for the League title.

It was doubly disappointing after a very encouraging and fully committed performance in the field. Manor were again without the wicket taking threat of the injured Julius Benjamin and the visitors openers took full advantage with an excellent opening partnership of 141 between Matt Parker (53) and Sri Lankan Raveenthiraraja (127). To their credit Manor showed great spirit to support fine bowling spells by Darren Baker (4-73) and Kyle Schreuder (2-60) to restrict Harborne to 263-8 from their 55 overs.

Unfortunately Manors batting lacked application as they tried to force the pace against some accurate bowling. The top six batsmen only managed 14 runs between them, and it was left to the lower order, in particular Arfan Khan (36no), to show that there were no demons in the pitch as Manor were finally dismissed for a dismal 129.

The next fixture is away at Old Elizabethans, and Manor must quickly turn their fortunes around to restore confidence and belief in the team.
