Manor Slump to Heavy Defeat Against Halesowen

1st XI Birmingham League Division Two
Aston Manor 124 all out
Halesowen 125-1
Halesowen won by 9 wickets

Manor suffered a disappointing and frustrating Bank Holiday weekend losing away at Halesowen on Saturday, and after travelling to Stratford on Monday, returned to Birmingham without a ball being bowled in an abandoned game.

After being asked to bat first Manor got off to a promising start reaching 35-0 before a very short but heavy downpour forced the players from the field. For a period after the restart the pitch certainly gave a lot more assistance to the bowlers, but the Manor batsmen were guilty of some poor shot selection in an alarming slump. In fact it was only a fine last wicket partnership between Andrew Forman (24) and Mickey Brommall (23no) which saw the visitors gain a batting point to finish on a very disappointing 124 all out.

As the clouds cleared and the sun came out the Halesowen pair of Quami (56no) and Sri Lankan international Warnapura (57no) had no problem steering the hosts to a comfortable win despite good opening spells from both Arfan Khan and Julius Benjamin.

This defeat leaves Manor too close to the relegation positions for comfort, and more consistency in the batting will definitely be required to start turning results around. The talent is definitely there, but more application of that talent is required.
