Manor Slump to a Second Successive Defeat

Birmingham League Division Two
1st XI
Bridgnorth 308-6
Aston Manor 246 all out
Bridgnorth win by 62 runs

Manor slipped to a second successive disappointing defeat in a dramatic game at Church Road on Saturday. The visitors won an important toss and batted superbly to make the most of an excellent track in reaching 308-6 from their 55 overs. Jono Whitney (62) and Chris McMillan (52no) were the main contributors as Manor struggled to replicate their fine early season form in the field. The hosts missed the pace of the absent Julius Benjamin, but there was great encouragement in the performance of 15 year old Brinda Paghura (3-77) who looks to be another great young prospect from the much vaunted Manor Academy.

Manors reply was not helped by the early loss of both openers, but Kyle Schreuder entertained the substantial crowd with an amazing knock of 126 from only 101 balls. Whilst Schreuder was at the crease receiving fine support from skipper Peter Evans (32) and Jason Furnell (22) a sensational win looked a distinct possibility. When Schreuder was finally out, Manor looked to settle for the draw and seemed in little trouble at 246-7 with only two overs remaining. However, Shropshires Jono Whitney had other ideas and produced a stunning penultimate over taking the 3 remaining wickets required to give Bridgnorth the spoils and leave Manor rueing another defeat which really should not have happened.
