Manor secure important win against Worcester Nomads

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Two
Aston Manor 223-8
Worcester Nomads 175 all out
Aston Manor won by 48 runs

Manor secured an important victory away at Worcester, and although they are only one place and 27 points clear of the final relegation place, they are also only 24 points behind third placed Kings Heath, such is the competitive nature of this Division.

Solid batting from Arfan Khan (58), Hareesh Reddy (39) and Nabeel Asghar (17) gave Manor a slow but steady start, and although Peter Evans smashed 15 from six balls, wickets fell as the visitors tried to increase the run rate. They were indebted to some bright and breezy stroke play from Andrew Forman (27no), who in partnership with Julius Benjamin, saw Manor through to a final total of 223-8 from their 50 overs.

New ball bowlers Arfan Khan (2-28) and Aurrel Kirnon (1-24) were again superb and supported by the left arm spin of Armadeep Sonkar (2-34) had their hosts reeling at 83-5. A good innings from Tom Mills (50) brought the hosts back into contention as he led a recovery to 170-5. Not for the first time this season the pace of Julius Benjamin (3-45) proved decisive as in an explosive spell of bowling the last five wickets fell for only five runs. Nabeel Asghar (1-19) took the final wicket and also produced a fine piece of fielding with a direct hit run out as Manor finally ran out winners by 48 runs.
