Manor record vital victory

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Studley 120-7 (37 overs)
Aston Manor 123-2 (31.1 overs)

After the frustration of two weeks inactivity  Manor continued their winning ways with a comfortable away victory against Studley. In a match reduced to 37 overs the visitors won the toss and were soon delighted with their decision to ask the hosts to bat first.  Aurell Kirnon (9-4-17-3) and Arfan Khan (12-1-45-2) were almost unplayable in a superb exhibition of seam bowling which reduced  Studley to 42-5 from the first 20 overs. Sunny Ahmed (47) helped stage a mini recovery, but left arm spinner Amardeep Sonkar (9-2-19-2) was equally impressive as the innings closed on 120-7. This was an excellent performance by Manors much vaunted bowling attack, but there will still be concern that they are not receiving the support they deserve as six catches were put down in the field.

Catching has been a problem for Manor all season, and so has the inconsistency of their batting, but thankfully there was no sign of any such frailties as the visitors reached their target comfortably for the loss of only two wickets. Jason Furnell (21) got Manor off to a solid start, and his fellow opener Jason Smith (40no) anchored the innings expertly in a partnership with the talented stroke player Amardeep Sonkar (47no) to steer the visitors to an important victory which keeps Manor in touch with the promotion places.
