Manor record comfortable victory against Water Orton

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 250-9
Water Orton 152 all out

This ultimately comfortable victory kept Aston Manor at the top of Division Three and was inspired by a superb all round performance from their overseas star Rahul Bakshi.

Manor’s top order did not bat with the required application and were guilty of giving their wickets away against what was albeit a fine bowling effort from Water Orton. Shaun Findlay made a quick-fire 25, Imran Khan 18, Simon Mugava 16 and Tom Caulfield 13, but the hosts were almost totally reliant on the brilliance of Bakshi. He carried his bat scoring an unbeaten 125, delighting a large Church Road crowd with some elegant and assured stroke-play to ensure that Manor posted a competitive total of 250-9 from their 50 overs.

Although Manor’s bowling was tight and steady they were making few in roads into the Water Orton batting line up as the visitors reached 99-1 and looked on course for a possible victory. However Bakshi stepped up to the mark again and produced a tremendous spell of swing bowling taking 5-16 and along with leg spinner Shaun Findlay (3-29) saw Water Orton collapse to 152 all out.

Manor were also sloppy in the field putting down four catches, and so although this was not one of their better all-round team performances they still recorded an important victory in their quest to secure a second successive promotion.
