Manor must win last match for promotion after loss against Tamworth

Birmingham League Division Three
1st XI
Tamworth 268-8
Aston Manor 116 all out

Aston Manors great run of form came to a shuddering halt away at Tamworth, but results elsewhere mean that Manor do go into the last game of the season still in second place in the League knowing that a win against Bridgnorth on Saturday would guarantee promotion back to Division Two.

After being held up in traffic Manor arrived late at the ground without time to warm up and the lack of preparation was evident in a dismal performance which was completely out of character to their recent form. The hosts decision to bat first on such a hot day was well founded, as Manor had no answer to a superb century from Shropshires Stuart Burrows (135no) in his sides total of 268-8. Arfan Khan (3-79) and Armadeep Sonkar (4-65) were the chief wicket takers, but for once Manors bowling was below standard and their fielding sloppy on one of the hottest days this Summer.

Manors reply started well through Sonkar (35) and Darren Baker (32) reaching 67-0 with a victory seeming a distinct possibility. However, excellent spin bowling from Aussie Michael Talbot (6-15) combined with very poor shot selection and disappointing Umpire decisions saw the visitors crumble to a miserable 116 all out.

Hopefully this performance can just be put down to one of those days when literally nothing went right and will be corrected in the crucial final fixture of the season.
