Manor Lose Against Cannock
Manor slipped to another disappointing defeat from a strong position in front of a large crowd at sun baked Church Road. After electing to bat first, Andrew Forman (28) sponsored by Jackson Calvert Chartered Accountants gave the hosts a solid start before a fine partnership between Chris Whittock (50) sponsored by Synergy Insurance Services and Darren Baker (32) set Manor up for a big score on 132-2 with twenty overs still remaining. Unfortunately both fell in quick succession, and only Ryan van Nierkerk (41) was able to take up the mantle as the batsmen were kept in check by a fine spell of seam bowling from Staffordshires David Womble (17-3-48-3) to close on 211-9.
In reply a tremendous spell from Arfan Khan (17-2-48-4) saw Cannock reduced to 54-4 and then to 112-5 as the hosts pressed for an important victory. Shozab Haider (1-21) sponsored by ODC Future Thinking claimed the other wicket, but again it was Womble (78no) who came to the visitors rescue in a very good partnership with Woodcock (43no) to see Cannock through to what was eventually a comfortable victory. Manor had their opportunities to break the partnership, but three difficult catches were put down, and as the old adage says catches win matches. How true, as Manors young side found to their cost.
