Manor keep on winning

The glorious weather, and free Samosas (thanks to Johnny Paige), ensured a massive crowd enjoyed a great game of cricket at Church Road on Sunday as Woodys Wanderers kept up their hopes of gaining a first ever Lichfield League Premier title with an exciting win against an impressive young Tamworth side.

The visitors opted to bat first, and although Shaun Carroll grabbed a wicket in the first over, Tamworth recovered well, predominantly through Jimmy Gray (79), to close on 216-9 from their 40 overs. Jon Meacham (2-24) and Nabeel Asghar (2-35) were the pick of the Manor bowlers who were well supported by a fine fielding effort in the unusually hot conditions.

The visitors also proved to be a threat with the ball, but after Manor lost an early wicket. a good partnership between Andy Forman (25) and the belligerent Kyle Schreuder (61) appeared to set the hosts on course for a comfortable victory.

Unfortunately a mid-order batting collapse followed reducing Manor to 140-6 before super skip Chris Wooding (14) steadied the ship with Jon Meacham (14). Manor had still fallen below the required rate, but some superb lusty blows by Weedy Waheed (26no) saw Manor through to victory with one wicket and one ball to spare of a most enjoyable match.
