Manor hold nerve for 1st win of season

1st XI
Birmingham League Division Three
Aston Manor 269-4 (37 overs)
Kings Heath 218 all out (31.4 overs)
ASTON MANOR WIN BY 24 RUNS (Rain adjusted)

Aston Manor gained their first league victory of the season with a fine performance away at Kings Heath. With the match reduced to 37 overs per side, Manor made a solid start with a fine partnership between Jake Lee (73) and Aafan Janjua (32). Lee played the anchor role superbly and set the platform for some outstanding stroke play from Armadeep Sonkar (76 from 42 balls) and powerful hitting from Aurell Kirnon (47no from 21 balls) which enabled the visitors to post an imposing total of 269-4.

Further rain meant that the total required by the hosts was amended to 242 from 32 overs, and while the impressive Ollie Thomas (89) was at the crease an unlikely victory appeared a possibility. Manor however kept their nerve, particularly through the superb swing bowling of Arfan Khan (5-22) and fiery pace of Julius Benjamin (4-47). Sonkar (1-24) also produced a spell of quality left arm spin bowling and with good support in the field Manor were able to dismiss their opponents for 218 with two balls remaining and secure a much needed victory.
