Manor frustrated

1st XI
Warwickshire Premier League
Aston Manor 286-5
Studley 211-2

Aston Manor 1st XI failed to build on last week’s victory as they were held to a disappointing away draw by struggling Studley.

Manor batted first on a very low and slow wicket, and their impressive total of 286-5 was built around the solid platform given to them by opener David Yeend who carried his bat throughout the innings to finish on 77 not out.

Fellow opener, Recordo Gordon (34) provided the early momentum but once he was out Manor slipped from 60-0 to a precarious 65-3. Shaun Findlay then came to the crease and with an absolutely superb knock gave the visitors back the initiative.

Findlay hit a magnificent 134 in a partnership of 185 with Yeend striking 14 fours and 3 sixes. It was a truly impressive display on such a slow wicket and gave Manor great hope of gaining back to back victories.

However, the slowness of the wicket meant that the effectiveness of Manor’s pace attack was nullified. Although the hosts never looked in contention to chase down Manor’s total conversely Manor never looked like bowling the opposition out either!

Recordo Gordon and Shaun Findlay grabbed a wicket each but Chris Perrins (66no) and Jack Williams (54no) were comfortably able to bat out for a draw for Studley.
