Manor Finish Off In Style

1st XI Birmingham League Division Two
Aston Manor 262 all out
Ombersley 196 all out
ASTON MANOR WON BY 66 RUNS

Manor ended a difficult season in style with a fine win against fellow strugglers Ombersley at Church Road.

Despite heavy overnight rain having seeped under the covers, Manor elected to bat first, and got into a strong position thanks to some solid batting from both Ryan van Niekerk (44) and Nabeel Asghar (38). Ex Worcestershire pace man Duncan Catterall (5-47) threatened to derail the innings during a fiery spell of bowling, but entertaining and blistering hitting from skipper Peter Evans sponsored by CKW Distribution Ltd (The Tool Market) (72 from 40 balls) and Arfan Khan (42no from 17 balls) saw Manor through to an impressive total of 262 all out.

The excellent opening attack of Ryan van Niekerk (3-41) and Arfan Khan (2-48) again got Manor off to a great start, making important early inroads into the visitors batting line up. Darren Baker (3-29) then backed them up with a good spell of swing bowling as the visitors were finally dismissed for 196 to give Manor a 66 run victory.

Groundsman, Phil Shaw, has continually produced excellent wickets at Church Road, which has helped this young Manor team to battle through a very testing season. They have shown admirable character to repay their much appreciated large number of regular and loyal supporters and all those who do such admirable work behind the scenes at the club.
