Manor draw in tense encounter

1st XI
Aston Manor 164-5 (48 overs)
Handsworth 151-9 (42 overs)

A rain affected match in Handsworth Park saw local rivals Aston Manor and Handsworth involved in a tense and exciting finish to a compelling game of cricket enjoyed by a large and vociferous crowd.

After being asked to bat first Manor found it hard to score runs quickly on an unpredictable surface. In form opener Kamran Zaman (62) and Aussie Greg Connor (23) both showed great application to ensure that wickets were not lost to the new ball. However, when asked to accelerate the scoring rate the visitors found it difficult with the exception of Shaun Findlay (37), whose fluent batting ensured that Manor completed their innings on a competitive, if somewhat disappointing, total of 165-5 from their 48 overs.

With a further 6 overs lost to rain, a tremendous opening spell of bowling from Imran Khan (3-34) and Arfan Khan (1-38) put the visitors in control. The hosts batting was held together by a fine innings from Anton Johnson (58no), as Manor chipped away with wickets from George Findlay (2-20) and Aidiel Bhayat (1-14). A couple of run outs also put pressure on Handsworth, but they survived the last over to gain the extra bonus points for the draw in a match which really could have gone either way.

Manor approach the halfway point to the season unbeaten and one point behind League leaders Bedworth.
